A few years back, campus radio was drowning in tear-soaked emo ballads from dishevelled all-ages grads who sang endlessly about the season, borrowed sweaters and broken hearts. Campus radio moved on, but now the major labels have caught on, which means an endless parade of saccharine whining and half-time breaks from a bunch of bands too self-involved to realize that they aren’t doing anything new. Boys Like Girls is technically a fine band, but when you have bands like Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Eat World and even All-American Rejects (gasp) doing it so much better, it makes you wonder why they bothered.
