ALISON KRAUSS
A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection
Rounder

· Kudos to Rounder’s marketing personnel on this one.

In the liner notes to what I like to call "Alison Krauss Sings With and In Support of Lots of People and Movie Studios," the folks at Rounder admit that they couldn’t wait for one of their sales stars (i.e. Krauss) to come up with a whole record’s worth of new material. To fill the gap, they’ve kindly given fans four pretty (bland) new songs – one token bluegrass track with Union Station, five songs from soundtracks and soundtrack offshoots, one James Taylor duet from a Louvin Brothers tribute album, and five songs where Krauss’s fine country-folk soprano helps out other people, including Natalie MacMaster, Brad Paisley, The Chieftains and John Waite (apparently, you can never have too much "Missing You").

If the DJ for your wedding suddenly cancels on you, pick this up to throw in the boombox when slow-dance time rolls around. Otherwise, wait for a real Alison Krauss album.

2/5
