Secrets, lies, sex and scandal thats Perfect Stranger in a nutshell. Director James Foley sticks to the mould for this thriller, and the results are entertaining but somewhat mediocre.
Halle Berry plays Rowens Price, a journalist from New York whose friend is murdered. Deciding that the case smells quite fishy, Price decides to go undercover to see if she can get to the bottom of it herself. She suspects the murderer is Harrison Hill, a high-powered advertising company CEO played by Bruce Willis. Hill is a man drawn to and defined by scandalous affairs, both online and in real life.
Price gets to Willis by being a great pretender. Her co-worker, Miles (played by the fantastic Giovanni Ribisi), helps her hack into Hills Internet chat website, where Price pretends to be Veronica, a lonely and loose woman looking for a good time online. Just to be sure that she corners Hill from all angles, Price also gets a temp job at his advertising agency. This is quite unrealistic but, nonetheless, by doing this, she can watch him like a hawk and get close and personal with Hill in both his work and personal life. She starts uncovering his deepest secrets, which seem to be infinite. Many more surprises ensue as Price starts to unmask more secrets than she bargained for. Some unexpected revelations turn up, making Price both the hunter and the hunted. The suspense kept this viewer on the edge of her seat.
Perfect Stranger doesnt really rise above the trappings of its overdone clichés and although the plot is somewhat interesting, its humdrum script falls short of being captivating. |
