JIM BRYSON
Where the Bungalows Roam
Kelp

· You can almost hear the rocking chair creaking in the background.

Jim Bryson is quietly one of Canada’s most consistent artists. His catalogue includes some of the best independent releases that you’ve never heard, and he’s collaborated with some of this country’s most celebrated roots artists, like Kathleen Edwards and Sarah Harmer.

Where the Bungalows Roam continues his mastery of lazy sounding porch-rock. His lilting folk songs are often painfully beautiful, and have a sense of longing without being necessarily sad. He’s kind of like a Joel Plaskett on downers. One of the most upbeat numbers on Bungalows is the hardly-rollicking "Clear the Crowds," on which Bryson’s voice climbs barely over a whisper and is just audible over the piano.

His music may not keep everyone awake but Bryson’s songs have a striking quality that is somehow starkly Canadian.
