BLACK LIPS
Los Valientes del Mundo Nuevo
Vice

· The New York Times recently dubbed these guys the "hardest working band at SXSW."

This is the best live record ever! Bold statement? Not if you listen to these Lips — they’ll tell you first-hand, and about five songs in, that this is the case. Supposedly recorded in Tijuana, though we’ll never know for sure, the painted backdrop of debauchery is a perfect match for the psychedelic garage rock sounds of The Black Lips.

They call this album (and by extension, themselves) The Brave Ones of the New World, which fits because they’re young, awesome and their songs will make you dance, shake and sweat out any liquid pollution, only to make room for more.

It’s been awhile since a rock band made as big (and wicked) an impression as these four lads from Atlanta, Georgia. If you’ve seen The Black Lips in concert, you already know what you’re missing by not owning this record. If you haven’t had the pleasure, do yourself a rock ’n’ roll favour. This is the best live record ever by the best live band ever! And that’s coming straight from my lips to yours.

4/5
