I’M FROM BARCELONA
Let’s Introduce My Friends
EMI

· A nostalgic retreat to tap into those fond childhood memories.

When I was eight, I remember saving up to buy hair clips for Helen Thompson on Valentine’s Day. I remember flicking sun-baked cat poo at my best friend in his sandbox. I remember sleepovers fuelled by Short Circuit marathons and Dr. Pepper. From xylophones twinkling like stars in the tide of dawn on "Oversleeping" to the broken doo-wop of "Saddest Lullaby," I’m From Barcelona coaxes out lapsed childhood memories with their buoyant debut full-length.

More of a creative collective than a band, Emanuel Lundgren and 28 other fellow Swedes bring a nostalgia steeped in childlike wonder rather than musical idioms. In Lundgren’s vocals, you hear a man who can only relive childhood within the confines of a pop song. What could be cloying evokes a charming fondness. Melodies and lyrics recall the songs you probably sang in elementary – simple enough for you to sing along with. In fact, the whole album sounds like an orchestra assembled by a child on a Saturday afternoon, complete with glockenspiels, accordions and kazoos. Let’s Introduce My Friends is children’s music for adults who still remember what it felt like to build a treehouse.
