CHIMAIRA
Resurrection
Ferret

· Hardcore death metal a force to be reckoned with.

Blending the thunderous low end of North American hardcore with the precise guitar riffing and clinical sound of Scandinavian death metal, Chimaira has become one of metal’s dominant underground forces. Still, this hasn’t seen the band entirely break through. Its lot in life is to be an opening act. In an explicit attempt to alter its fate, Chimaira may finally get to leave its drum kit on the big riser. The band has put an intense amount of energy into Resurrection.

Natural groove and simplicity were forsaken in an attempt to write a masterpiece. That said, the amount of inflection and detail on every track is impressive. Doubled vocals, eerie synth passages and interludes abound, proving that these guys aren’t only capable of getting into the nitty gritty, but they pay attention to every aspect of their songs. That’s when the "clinical" element comes in though. However, if these guys just relaxed and felt the inherent grooves their dominating riffs inspire, they could cut the chaff and deliver that legendary release. Resurrection, though, is simply another "good" album. It doesn’t satisfy the taste buds – it leaves one longing for something a bit more straightforward.
