PANDA BEAR
Person Pitch
Fat Cat

· Hazy songs at an underwater pace.

It’s now clear that Panda Bear is the true genius behind Animal Collective, a notion hammered home by the beautiful and haunting Person Pitch.

With a Brian Wilson harmonic obsession turned on its head, these hazy songs move along at a dream-like underwater pace. "Take Pills" forms unforgettable melodic shapes, creating an almost narcotic effect. The gorgeously howling epic "Bros" folds out from within a forest of echo and blur, while its twin counterpoint "Good Girl/Carrots" seems to upend ’60s psychedelia, tabla spun backwards, rain rushing down.

Often grouped into the freak-folk/psych-folk/folk nouveau/whatever category, Panda Bear fits primarily into his own bizarre and maze-like world with very little room for anyone else to tread the same territory with quite such heavy footsteps.
