A NORTHERN CHORUS
The Millions Too Many
Sonic Unyon

· A Northern Chorus trade epic space rock for brilliant chamber pop.

A Northern Chorus is known more for massive squalls of feedback than their vocal prowess, but for their fourth album the band experiments with a more traditional sound. The Millions Too Many may be more concise than their 2005 release Bitter Hands Resign, but it isn’t any less complex. The return of original violin player Erin Aurich, coupled with the resonant cello playing of Alex McMaster, gives A Northern Chorus a built-in string section that they use to full advantage. Songs like "Canadian Shield" will easily sweep listeners away with soaring climaxes, while "Victory Parade" is content to stay small. On The Millions Too Many, A Northern Chorus offer more variety without forgetting what made them such a national treasure in the first place. Imagine the chugging Canadiana of The Rheostatics, the loping heartbreak of Death Cab For Cutie and everything that falls in between – this is song craft of the highest calibre that blends melody and emotion without ever hinting at saccharine.
