DOLOREAN
You Can’t Win
Yep Roc

· Dolorean has famous friends. Indie film guru Gus Van Sant shot the cover photo for the album.

You Can’t Win is a perfect title for the latest album from Dolorean, because it captures the sense of longing, nostalgia and wistful despair that has pervaded all four of their albums. The title track kicks off the record with that simple three-word refrain looped for a blissful four-and-a-half minutes. It’s a testament to this often overlooked band that minimal keyboard melodies punctuated by the desperate croon of Al James is enough to anchor the song.

The rest of the album falls into more familiar territory for Dolorean. Using tasteful banjo and restrained guitar solos, the band crafts tearful alt-folk gems that recall a more tender Crosby, Stills & Nash or less moody Neil Young. With loping rhythms and heartbreaking backup vocals, You Can’t Win could easily soundtrack your next rainy day or get you through your next breakup.
