WAYNE PETTI
City Lights Align
Outside
· Cuff the Duke front man steps out on his own.
By day, Wayne Petti serves as lead singer for country-rock outfit Cuff the Duke. By night, he plucks at an acoustic guitar and sings introspective songs about the meaning of life. The result is his first solo effort, City Lights Align, a concise but fascinating collection of songs.
The album begins with more than a hint of resignation with "Falling Behind," on which Petti sounds like hes singing from the corner in the back of the studio. He sings, "the moment is now/ but the movement is dead" in a voice that could only be produced by someone lying in the fetal position. As the album goes on, though, Petti lifts his head, and by the time "Up on the Hillside" rolls around with its gospel-like hand claps, City Lights Align is a downright joyous occasion.
Petti doesnt do a whole lot to distinguish himself from Cuff the Dukes signature style, but with the way he understands country music, you wouldnt want him to anyway. City Lights Align is hopefully the first of many solo projects for Petti.
