CLOUDS
Legendary Demo
Hydra Head Records

· I bet their amps go to 11.

Once a year, an album comes along that is so audacious in delivery, so massive in riffage, so shameless in gut-busting rock ’n’ roll posturing, that you can’t help but give yourself over to it. Two years ago it was Early Man. Last year it was The Sword. This year it’s Boston’s Clouds. While the two other examples deal mainly in vintage metal power, Clouds play in the classic rock vein, but by turning up the intensity Legendary Demo abolishes any notion of old and tired. Imagine Tricky Woo’s This Time I Cry meets The Cult’s Electric – duelling solos, no waiting. The 20-minute jazz-fusion track that closes the album goes waaaay off the rails, but for 21-minutes Legendary Demo reminds you why people plug in and turn up in the first place.
