DO MAKE SAY THINK
You, You’re a History in Rust
Constellation

· Montreal calling (again).

Montreal’s neo-classical post-rock scene has been steadily losing steam. Since the disappearance of Godspeed! You Black Emperor (undeniable leaders of the scene) and the rise of the likes of Islands, Wolf Parade and Arcade Fire, the spotlight’s certainly refocused. Do Make Say Think, one of the city’s more interesting groups, has steadfastly continued down its own road of progress, reaching brilliant climax with You, You’re a History in Rust.

Ebbing and flowing, Rust chronicles an epic band finely in tune with one another. Horns, banjo and mathematically precise guitarwork spotlessly intertwined, approach true statuesque beauty. Sure, there’s still a fair amount of muso navel-gazing going on, but that’s par for the course with this sort of thing. As a whole, You, You’re a History in Rust works as a united piece of music befitting full-focus, late-night countryside drives. The faceless vocals (sometimes one, sometimes several blurred together) create a beautiful tension – starting first in the background, soon overtaking the gorgeous "A With Living." "You, You’re Awesome" comes off so earnest, sweet and genuine, that even without words, it’s one of the finest love songs in recent memory.

A record free of any scene that may or may not have spawned it, You, You’re a History in Rust is both huge and tiny – the type of record that feels made just for you.
