Faces of Guatemala
Character and colour are integral elements of Guatemalan culture and national identity. The country’s attraction lies in the multi-layered, but intricate aura of its citizens. The colourful attire of Guatemalan people and the glowing architecture of their surroundings in combination with the ever-present sun gives a photographer the ideal opportunity to create evocative and intense imagery. The faces of Guatemalan people powerfully express pride of belonging that contrasts sharply with their lack of material wealth.

I took these portraits during a recent trip with the assistance and guidance of my Guatemalan-born wife. The locations of these pictures are scattered from Guatemala City to the country’s east coast.
