TRICK DADDY
Back By Thug Demand
Atlantic

·  Thug thug thug thug thug thug thug thug thug thug thug thug.

Trick Daddy’s one and only brush with the mainstream was the 2001 bubblegum rap song, "I’m a Thug." Since then, he’s abandoned the pop sound to fit in more snugly with the gangster-rap set, but his use of the word thug is still going strong.

On Back By Thug Demand’s best song, "Born a Thug," Trick says "you already know how this shit goes." Sadly, truer words have never been spoken. Trick’s seventh album is an exposition on jewellery, hos and rims — a theme so played out it’s a wonder that even the rappers themselves find it impressive.

All the songs blend into each other if you aren’t listening carefully, and even the guest appearances by such unknowns as 8ball and International Jones are kind of hard to distinguish from one another.

There is virtually nothing memorable on Back By Thug Demand. But Trick Daddy doesn’t care. Because he’s a thug.
