THE BERG SANS NIPPLE
Along the Quai
Team Love

· More proof that "programming" should not be listed as an instrument.

The French-American duo known as the Berg Sans Nipple is made up of Paris-born Lori Sean Berg and Nebraska native Shane Aspegren. Their second full-length album, Along the Quai, is a messy experiment attacked with drums, keyboards, machines and glockenspiels. The group’s sound would fall under the label of ambient noise if it weren’t for the fact that both members are best known as percussionists, which means that underneath each seemingly aimless song lies an impressive beat.

Like most instrumental bands (though some songs on Along the Quai do have washed-out lyrics), The Berg Sans Nipple tend to meander too long on certain musical ideas. The song "Aquarium Life" hangs out on one musical idea for about six-and-a-half minutes, without actually getting to the point. This seems to be the theme of the album.

There is a lot of good background music on the album, and if the band takes a cue from Moby, they could surely license a ton of their work out for commercials and movies. Beyond that, the band is competent, but hardly overwhelming.
