London, Ontarios Scott Walmsley has developed a solid underground following for his plunderphonic creations, most of which lambaste the right-wing of American politics, media and society. While there are still some anti-Fox News pieces on his latest compilation (available for download at http://scottiescutandpasteproject.com), he has largely shifted his focus to an equally controversial but rather less tangible subject: life, the universe, and everything. Culling material from a wide range of sources from The Wizard of Oz to What the Bleep Do We Know?, from Laurie Anderson to John Prine, and from Ali G to Jon Stewart Scottie creates a lo-fi, mash-up stream of consciousness exploring what it means to be a thinking, questioning, wondering human being. The highlight is the 23-minute "Echoes of Waking Life in 2001," which meanders unpredictably on a Richard Linklater-inspired path through Sartre, free will, lucid dreaming, Buddhism and quantum mechanics over a backdrop of Pink Floyd and the 2001: A Space Odyssey soundtrack.
