PETER BJORN AND JOHN
Writers Block

· Stockholm post-punk popsters keep penning song after song.
Called Peter Bjorn and John, youd thing this Stockholm trio had Writers Block just coming up with a name. But ever since the release of their self-titled debut in 2002, these post-punk popsters have been penning more and more developed songs that have shot them to the top of the Swedish charts ahead of like-minded countrymen Shout Out Louds.
Writers Block, their third album, is the first to give all members a share of writing and singing duties. The result is an album with unending freshness that leaves you with a different feeling after each listen. Whether you depart with the contagious whistling of their hit single "Young Folks" swirling in your head, or the pounding rhythm and maracas of "Amsterdam" is what youre left with, the album is one you will find yourself returning to over and over again. "Young Folks," featured on an episode of Greys Anatomy earlier this year, is a beautiful tit-for-tat sung by Peter Morén and Victoria Bergsman, ex-singer of the criminally underrated The Concretes. "If I told you things I did before/ told you how I used to be/ would you go along with someone like me?" Morén asks his lover, before the two of them conclude by the end of the song: "All we care about is talking/ talking only me and you." Maybe Im a little early for the year-end list craze, but "Young Folks" is without a doubt one of the best songs of the year.
