| Royal Commission ought to investigate the RCMP |
| When I phoned a retired Mountie acquaintance yesterday I was surprised to find him celebrating the demise of his superintendent. This officer blames the corrupt system for screw-ups such as Mayerthorpe. Apparently top officers get a percentage of money they manage to trim off their enforcement budgets. Hence no helicopter or dog man was sent to assist those four young officers who were gunned down by a known psycho. Politicians from Anne McLellan to Ralph Klein scampered to suggest the problem was grow-ops (not screw-ups). Before this is again papered over by nervous politicians with a new head Mountie, the kickback system must be stopped. Only a royal commission can dig out the facts and set things right.
