First, have either the planners or proponents of this development extended any compassionate consideration for the unfortunate creatures that will suffer emotional and physical distress during their shipment?
Second, considering recent reports of our rapidly diminishing water supply in Alberta, from what source will the zoo be siphoning the vast amounts that will be required to maintain this exhibit will the zoo be able to afford this water in the future?
Third, the Zoo attempts to portray itself as caring, yet the new elephant enclosure will not be built as planned because of escalating costs. Also, on New Years Eve, as in previous years, a fireworks display will "cap off the evening with a bang" and the Zoo continues to advertise "Theres no substitute for the Zoo," using pictures of dressed-up animals. Regardless of whether this is, or is not, digital photography, it demeans them. Instead of expanding the Zoos animal collection, the decision-makers should demonstrate a more humane attitude by providing five-star accommodation for all the creatures already in their care.
