IV THIEVES
If We Can’t Escape My Pretty
New West Records

· Nic Armstrong loses his ego, renames his band and writes a dozen songs that could be the closing credits music for any number of movies.

Nic Armstrong and the Thieves were billed as one of the best bands in Britain by Noel Gallagher of Oasis. That should give you an idea of the kind of Brit pop-influenced rock that IV Thieves churn out. After taking his name off the band, Armstrong and company step up with a collection of catchy powerhouse crunch where the focus is on finding the groove and delivering the goods in the chorus. Admittedly, the only surprise on the album is that something so British was released on an American indie-roots label, but with so many shameless singalongs and guitar solos, there’s no time to care. This is the album that will remind you why you started listening to Oasis, The Charlatans and all those other poncey Brits in the first place.
