BECK
The Information
Universal

· Ten albums on, Beck is just as inventive as ever.

Apparently Beck had been planning to record a hip hop album, however, The Information sounds more like the laidback songs on his last album, Guero.

"Think I’m in Love" and "Cellphone’s Dead" sound especially similar and feature the same mix of clever lyrics and catchy beats. The album is just as creative and intricate as his previous works, but completely relaxed and enjoyable.

Beck seems in his element, blending stream-of-consciousness rapping and elements of different genres. A lazy harmonica rambles on, little kids threaten and Beck whispers while synthesizers drift in the background. Compared to his earlier words it’s a far more varied and upbeat album. Beck continues to collect interesting sounds, writes something sweet and creates another unique album.

By the way, the album comes with a DVD of homemade videos, awesome stickers and a giant piece of white graph paper, so you can design your own cover art. What a nifty idea.
