BOB EGAN
The Glorious Decline
Universal

· Third solo release from eminent guitar player.

In the complicated subset of folk-blues-rock bands, three of the most influential groups of the last 15 years might well be Freakwater, Wilco and Blue Rodeo. Bob Egan has steadfastly learned his chops travelling the crossroads with all three. In addition, Egan has spent time as a session player for Neko Case, Oh Susanna, Hayden, and Jason Collett. He even filled in on the Tragically Hip’s Phantom Power classic, "Bobcaygeon." Left to his own devices, Egan has crafted a dark and brooding twilight rambler, even if some tracks ramble a little too long. The Glorious Decline is filled with the kind of down-and-out characters who’d frequent airport bars on Christmas Day or the lesser haunts of Old Montreal’s twisting side streets. More bluesy than folksy, more Tom Waits than Leonard Cohen, more bourbon than beer, it’s perfect for those twilight moments when all you want is to be left alone.
