· Worth the wait.

You and Me Against the World Baby was supposed to come out in early 2005, but when Priya Thomas got a chance to remix some of the songs with a U.K. producer, she decided to delay the release. The British IRL label picked up the album and it has taken its time returning to the commonwealth. Songs this good can take all the time they want. Album opener "Anything I Want I Can Get Me Some" is a roaring double-time rave up, "Motherfucking West" adds much-needed swagger to a post-punk strut and "Seaside Song" takes equal parts PJ Harvey and delta blues and lays on a marble-smooth chorus. The album can’t live up to the promise of the first half, but even when the album goes from balls-out to wimp out, the ragged production and textured noise still keeps it interesting. For one of the worst album covers of the year, this is a fine collection of songs.
