Waiting for the Next End of the World
Dischord
· What Trent Reznor might sound like if he tried his hand at DC post punk.
On Waiting for the Next End of the World, former Jawbox frontman J Robbins hauls out the thesaurus for a lyrically dense, but ultimately peppy collection. His wife Janet Morgan takes bass playing duties adding sweet backup vocals, while Darren Zentek, of Kerosene 454, provides a quartz-precision backbone. Some songs are rerecorded versions of tracks from their 2004 release Open, but most are freshly-minted rockers heavy on staccato groove. The album offers more hooks than you might expect from the Dischord label, but gives up all the layered tension you have come to love from Channels.
