| Re: "Manage arts groups, agencies effectively," by Scott Pickett, Letters,

It may be of some interest for Mr. Pickett to know that CSIF along with TRUCK, Stride, the New Gallery, Quickdraw Animation Society and
EMMEDIA Gallery and Production Society represent over 150 combined years of good management. It is a testament to our diligence as responsible non-profit organizations spending the public purse that we have prospered. It is also a testament to the fact that we do operate like aggressive small businesses. That is how we survive. The difference being dedicated individuals like David Jones and Melody Jacobson at CSIF could not hope to be paid an amount commensurate with their abilities.
The search for affordable space for arts and culture groups is nothing new Mr. Pickett. Not in the present climate nor in the late 70s when the first genesis of Calgary's present non-profit arts groups began. It is a constant. We do not wring our hands, we roll up our sleeves and do what we have to do to keep the doors open providing the inspiration, services, gallery space and expertise to Calgary's independent arts community. Your insinuation that CSIF and by extension all arts groups that seek secure and stable lodging have incompetent management personnel is insulting, perverse, ignorant of the facts and not very illuminating at all.
Lon Parker,
President, EMMEDIA Gallery & Production Society
