City drug problem: just say no versus just say go
Re: "Crack getting bigger," by Amy Steele, News, August 10-16, 2006.

I see that prohibition is working as well as it always has.

Alan Randell, Victoria

I have an opinion about attitudes toward the homeless in the city with addictions. I do not believe that an addiction to crack or alcohol or any other illegal substance is a disease. I believe that the disease is actually stupidity. There is plenty of information around this city telling people that drugs and alcohol can and will ruin your life, and are addictive, yet these people make the CHOICE to "try it" the first time.

I do not feel sympathy for these people who have made the CHOICE to start using drugs, yet I do support the agencies in this city that are trying to help those who have realized their mistake and want to correct their lives. I applaud those people who have decided to rebuild their lives and do not mind my tax dollars supporting their rehabilitation.
