THE MARBLE INDEX
Watch Your Candles, Watch Your Knives
Maple Music Recordings

· With all the Franz Ferdinand imitators out there, one of them was bound to make something good. I just didn’t expect it to be these guys.

The Marble Index used to be the most forgettable band in Canada – live and on record they were a middle-of-the-road rock three-piece. They’re still as derivative as ever, but in an attempt to capitalize on the latest trend they made a well-paced, well-produced and well-played album. Disco beats, reggae guitars, minimal solos and ass-shaking grooves – this is a textbook play for popularity, but if you can get past that, you’ll be surprised at how well it actually works.
