| Re: "A Critical Look at Indias forgotten widows," by Dipti Chakravorty, July 06-12, 2006.
A very offensive remark has been made about the holy scriptures of Hindus: "Our holy texts say Brahmins can sleep with whomever they want, and the women they sleep with are blessed." The statement sounds like that of a missionary engaged in proselytization whose basic aim is to crush the parental religion to make way for the new one even with the help of lies.
It would have been nice to mention the name of the holy text. The sacred Hindu texts are Vedas, Upanishads and Purans. I assure you that none of these scriptures contain the statement made in the book under review and highlighted by your critic.
I hope your critics will give due consideration to the feelings of Hindus in the future.
