| Native Calgarian Daniel Moran is the featured pianist in the traditional end of summer classical music event Mozart on the Mountain, Sunday, August 27 at 2 p.m. at Three Sisters Mountain Village in Canmore.
Moran is a former student of Marilyn Engle, an alumnus of both University of Calgary and the Banff Centre for the Arts. His artist diploma is from the Glenn Gould School at the Toronto Conservatory. Hes worked on his doctorate at the Université de Montreal while maintaining a growing international career touring through Europe and Japan as both soloist and chamber music player. He has rarely performed in Calgary, but will be familiar to listeners of CBC Radio Two.
His interpretations have been described as poetic lyricism with intensity of expression.
In addition to the familiar strains of Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major, featured in the movie Elvira Madigan, and other Mozart favourites, conductor Pierre Simard will lead the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra through the Emperor Waltzes by Strauss Jr.
Bus transportation to the concert can be arranged by calling CPO at 571-0849. Tickets for the performance will also be available on site, which this year is not wheelchair accessible. The uneven ground will be difficult to navigate for those with limited mobility.
By arriving early patrons can explore the tents selling and displaying the works of local fine artists and crafts people. Face painting, food and beverage kiosks plus pre- and post-show entertainment by the Dixie Knights will be featured rain or shine. For more info visit www.cpo-live.com. |
