G. LOVE
Lemonade
Brushfire Release

· G. Love holds the special sauce.

With his major label tenure finished, G. Love has found a home on soul brother Jack Johnson’s Brushfire records. On Lemonade, G. Love ventures out on his own without his Special Sauce pals. The album features keyboards a bit more prominently than previous albums, adding some psychedelic touches to his sleepy sound. There are also some high-profile guest appearances on the album, but thankfully they aren’t done with Santana-level frequency. As always, Mr. Love emphasizes mellow grooves and good-time vibes, and songs like "Hot Cookin’" and "Missing my Baby" are good sittin’-on-the-back-porch- drinkin’-booze-on-a-hot-night songs. An appearance by Blackalicious allows G. Love to really dig into his rapping skills and, of course, Jack Johnson shows up for a centrepiece duet. G. Love ends the album with the solo acoustic number "Still hangin’ around." Although he treads familiar territory on Lemonade, G. Love sounds comfortable with his new home.
