THE RED JUMPSUIT APPARATUS
Dont You Fake It
Virgin/EMI
· Debut full-length from Florida quintet mixes screamo, pop punk and low-calorie metal into a sputtering youthful cacophony that unfortunately comes across as insincere.
The first few tracks blend well enough, with generic yet palatable vocals tossing out mediocre lyrics. Then the catchy get-out-of-the-abusive-relationship ditty "Face Down" finally highlights how well The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus can click. The addictive pulsating doesnt last long though, as the subsequent tracks unsuccessfully attempt to blend musical styles. Coming across as tangential instead of coherent, the rest of the album stumbles and meanders.
Perhaps it was an attempt to explore all the styles and musical whims they hold dear, but it leaves a listener confused and tracks quickly fade into background noise, soon to be forgotten about.
