· On a rock ’n’ roll mission from God – with the bruises to prove it. The Belushis will be playing at Broken City on Thursday, August 10.

It doesn’t matter that The Belushis can’t sustain their breakneck energy over the course of an entire live album. It doesn’t matter that their Ramones-esque attempt at humour on "I Abused Them" falls flat. It doesn’t matter that they wear their Stooges and MC5 influences on their sleeve, because The Belushis might just be one of the first bands that actually believes in the MC5 manifesto of "dope, guns and fucking in the streets" witnessed by the bravado of "If We Wanna Rock." It doesn’t matter that The Belushis’ music is simple rock reductionism about girls, beer and playing rock ’n’ roll. It doesn’t matter that The Belushis threaten members of their audience. The only thing that matters is the three minutes and three seconds of their fist-pumping, butt-shaking opener "Black is the Rockinest Colour," a fashion mission statement that matches intensity with "Kick Out the Jams." The Belushis revel in their physical presence – the sweat practically pours out of your speakers and you half expect the band to pass out before the album’s over.
