NIZLOPI
Half these songs are about you…
FDM Records/a.k.a. Music

· Music for a summer’s afternoon.

You know, if I were a folk festival programmer, I’d be looking to get Nizlopi in my lineup for 2007. Jazzy folk duos work well on main stages or in workshops, especially when they have fresh-faced charm and unmistakably Northern English voices. There’s great singalong potential in their songs, what with having two that start off with "Well well well well" and a semi-hit in the childhood reminiscence "JCB Song." The arrangements incorporate unexpected and/or international elements, like a string quartet, a Hammond organ, a horn section, and a flamenco guitarist (admittedly, the backing musicians are a little overpowering at times, but they could be asked to tone it down onstage).

The lyrics are generally family-friendly – mostly about love, life and Transformers, with only a couple of unexpected F-bombs throughout the repertoire (they could easily be replaced in the stripped-down acoustic "Freedom"). There are ready-made "recommended if you like" comparisons to acoustic fusion bands like Frente and English neo-classical-folkies like Kate Rusby (who the Nizlopi boys admit to drooling over).

Give ’em a call, Kerry Clarke.
