CATCH 22
Permanent Revolution
Victory Records

· A ska-punk soundtrack delving into the trials and tribulations of Bolshevik leader Leon Trotsky from experienced New Jersey skanksters.

Desiring a product with substance as well as flair, Catch 22 arranged 11 tracks chronicling key moments, ideologies and struggles in Trotsky’s life. Never preachy or dry with tedious historical details, Permanent Revolution is a mostly mellow yet catchy ska album with injections of reggae, subdued pop-punk and swanky interludes.

Granted, instigating thoughts about the parallels between Trotsky’s political climate and current world events is a pleasant, albeit strange, benefit to be derived from a ska album. However, if you don’t want to listen too closely or dissect the metaphors strung throughout, focus in on the smoothness of Tomas Kalnoky’s voice and the sweet caress of a flawless horn section. You’ll still get the same warm fuzzy.
