MARC ANTHONY
Sigo Siendo Yo
Sony BMG
· Enjoy sweaty salsa clubs? Youll love this record.
With his Spanish-language greatest-hits album, Sigo Siendo Yo, Marc Anthony delivers the goods danceable, love-stained salsa and pop music. If youve listened to Anthonys music before and liked it, youll love this album. A talented crooner, Anthonys vocals and style harken back to another era of salsa and Puerto Rican dance music.
The salsa songs on the album will make you want to rumba. Standouts are the fiery "Do La Vuelta" and the sexy "Barco a La Dervia." The stylish trumpets and intricate percussion used are distinct and sizzling.
Ironically, the music that made Anthony popular in the mainstream pop world is the weakest on the album. Some of the poppier songs are the Latin version of "You Sang to Me (Muy Dentro De Mi)" and "Dimelo," the Latin version of "I Need to Know." While they are catchy and tend to make the ladies swoon, they lack the passion of his salsa tunes. His duet with wife Jennifer Lopez, "No Me Ames," is just plain bad and J. Los vocals being paired with Anthonys demonstrates how bad a singer she really is.
When Anthony gets away from the ballads that profess his undying love for whoever or whatever, he produces some dazzling, fun and club-worthy salsa music. Muy Bueno!
