MR. LIF
Mo’ Mega
Definitive Jux

· Lif uses musical and lyrical juxtaposition to illustrate the disparity between the black slave and the North American elite.

Maybe you know this Beantown MC from his earlier solo albums, maybe you caught his collaboration with The Perceptionists in 2005 or maybe you are just a fan of the Definitive Jux label. In any of these cases, Lif’s Mo’ Mega doesn’t disappoint. The album is loaded with big beats and catchy grooves, but Lif never limits his instrumentation. Big sludgy guitars share space with jingle bell percussion and hypnotic glitch. Lyrically, Lif brings a smooth flow to his rhymes. Known for being highly politicized, he’s not afraid to bring humour to the fore to make a point. "Washitup!" may be as dirty as the title suggests, but his tongue-in-cheek banter with labelmate Murs on album standout "Murs is My Manager" more than makes up for it. Mo’ Mega is smart, fun and catchy — everything it should be
