QUANTIC
An Announcement to Answer
Ubiquity / Tru Thoughts

· Due to conflicting schedules, Quantic was unable to use longtime collaborator Alice Russell. He makes up for it by stacking the deck in other ways.

While I have nothing against glitchy hip hop, there is something refreshing about Quantic’s commitment to organic sounds that makes this latest outing so captivating. Whether he’s flying solo, or running under the Quantic Soul Orchestra moniker, DJ Will Holland likes to use real instruments to make big beats and deep grooves. On An Announcement to Answer, he is clearly aiming to take it easy. He’s found a way to blend traditional Chinese folk melodies and Latin trumpets with vintage funk guitar riffs, and although half the tracks are instrumentals, they never lack a voice. Conversely, the guest vocals by The Rebirth’s Noelle Scaggs and MC Ohmega Watts, never overfill the song. Quantic splices and dices, giving vintage sounds a contemporary edge and the result is the chill-out album of the summer.
