· Music writer proven wrong about the Mini-Me guitar Goliath, Ronnie James Dio.

There’s nothing more depressing than being proven wrong. Especially when it comes from someone who would make Mini-Me seem like Goliath. Renowned for his diminutive stature and penchant for making music cheesier than French onion soup, metallic stalwart Ronnie James Dio is an easy target for laughs. Which is why it hurts so much to admit that something as potentially uproarious as an entire concert film devoted to his best-known album is good.

For crying out loud, the guy owns leather pants that are older than members of Avenged Sevenfold, but man, can he belt ’em out. Timeless and well-weathered, Dio’s voice is like velvet throughout this career retrospective. Soaring tracks such as "Gypsy," "Heaven and Hell" and "Tarot Woman" are flawlessly delivered, the band rages strong, and on a cinematographic level, crisp footage, tons of fancy lights and multi-cameras make this quick-paced and interesting throughout.

Capped off with typical band interviews, it’s actually a pretty engrossing affair. Damn you, Dio. You’ve proven yourself with one epic of a DVD. Your Achilles heel remains hidden… so far.
