END OF FASHION
End of Fashion
Capitol
· A distinct lack of songs about kangaroos on Australian bands North American debut.
Already huge in their home country of Australia, End of Fashion are attempting to conquer the rest of the world with their new self-titled album. Its clear from the outset what Australians like in their rock n roll, as these guys would slide in comfortably next to the last big thing from down under Powderfinger. The album is slathered in elastic pop hooks, and melodies carried by singer Justin Burford, who is a vocal dead-ringer for former Age of Electric singer Todd Kerns.
The albums lead single, "O Yeah," was written by Burford on a dare that he couldnt write a complete song in one sitting and the result is the bands best effort. Reminiscent of OK Gos hit "Get Over It," the song is heavy on singalong choruses, which is accentuated by the band rushing through each verse as fast as possible to get back to the fun part. Of course, theres something to be said for a band that knows their strengths.
End of Fashion can be taken as a slight improvement over the pop-rock stylings of OK Go or All-American Rejects. Theres not a lot here thats going to make you think past the three-and-a-half minutes that its coming out of your speakers, but if youre not careful, you may find yourself dancing in your bedroom.
