Cut small business owners some slack
I think it is a very bad spot that business owners such as TuAnh Nguyen have been placed in. We all enjoy ( no matter what our income is) a good, healthy meal with out paying an arm and a leg. It is bad enough that TuAnh has to pay a large amount in rent to have a restaurant in a location like 17th Avenue and also now have to pay higher wages to boot. If not for people like TuAnh we would have to pay $30 for a bowl of soup and tip the server $5 as well. So, in return we will need to make higher incomes to pay these demands. The point is, if everyone wants more money, be prepared to pay more for everything. That is what drives inflation up.

Gord Chrisitie's comments where very strong and not well thought out. Gord: as a business owner myself, I have to tell you that good business owners attract good long-term employees without having to increase wages. If it is a good workplace that offers the employee what they may want to keep them and will also bring new ones onboard. Employers today will remember who helped them out when times were tough, just like employees should remember who helped them when jobs were hard to find. Gord needs to know it is not us-against-them. A let’s-stick-it-to-the-business-owner-for-all-the-years-they-stuck-it-to us attitude is just going to get you a $30 bowl of soup.

Quentin Chizek, Business Owner, Calgary
