FINAL FANTASY
He Poos Clouds
Tomlab

· But where are the Dungeons & Dragons trading cards?

Owen Pallett (a.k.a Final Fantasy) has created another sweeping, but enjoyable album with his sophmore release He Poos Clouds.

The songs on the album are apparently meant to outline the schools of magic in Dungeons & Dragons, the popular geek role-playing game of the ’80s. As expected, the album is extremely dramatic, both in Pallett’s lyrics and the sweeping moments when the string quartet takes over. Tracks such as "Do You Love?" create an almost operatic tone as screaming backing vocals and quickening violins make for a compelling listen.

Thankfully, however, the album never becomes melodramatic and though the whimsy of his previous release Has a Good Home is gone, the little ironies keep the rather dark album in check. He Poos Clouds is an inventive and enjoyable listen, combining dramatic and beautiful songs with tracks like "Song Song Song."
