By releasing their debut album, Birthing the Giant, on 6/6/06, Cancer Bats have assured themselves a place in rock and roll infamy. Or, at least, that’s how they pictured it. The unfortunate truth is that this album will likely come and go without so much as a whimper – which says something about a band that tries so hard to be loud.
Much like labelmates Alexisonfire, Cancer Bats blend screamo and heavy metal, but unfortunately, they take the least desirable elements of both – metal’s uber-distorted guitars and screamo’s, well, screaming. The result is just an assault on the eardrums.
It’s back to the drawing board for Cancer Bats.
