| Gareth Lukes, of Lukes Records, would like fans of the Pants Situation to know that bassist Dan Laplante is not dead.
Lukes says the local indie band’s MySpace page was hacked, and a fake death announcement posted. It seems the group’s Gmail and MSN accounts were hacked as well.
"Due to the craziness of the situation and the fact I didn’t have any of their phone numbers on me… for half an hour I actually thought he was dead," says Lukes. "I’ve received a couple of dozen messages from people concerned."
The fake announcement said that Laplante died in a car accident, and that the band had broken up.
"He will be dearly loved and remembered and he was a truly inspirational person to us all. We really need your love and support right now, more than ever," read the announcement. "Keep in contact, it's what Danny would have wanted…keep the love alive for Danny."
