| Re: "A rough week for CanWest Global," by Jeremy Klaszus, Watchdawg, June 1-7, 2006.
Jeremy Klaszus's excellent article fails to mention that the National Post did verify the story with the Simon Wiesenthal Centre.
Larry Cohler-Esses, editor-at-large of Jewish Week, writes in the May 25 issue ("Anatomy of a Hoax," http://www.thejewishweek.com/news/newscontent.php3?artid=12511) that an editor of the Post phoned and e-mailed Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, to verify the story. "Particularly, I want to make sure that part saying Jews will have to wear a yellow stripe and Christians a red stripe is, in fact, true," wrote the editor.
According to Cohler-Essess article, Rabbi Cooper e-mailed back one hour and 14 minutes later: "Dear John," he wrote, "The story is absolutely true."
This begs the question as to why an editor of the National Post would seek to verify a story about Iran from a secondary and biased source in the U.S.
