Brotherhood Of The Dead

· Band updates their style and sound to make one giant leap for all punk-kind.
Few bands have the ability to improve exponentially. As they plod along their career trajectory, things tend to become flatter and flatter as inspiration becomes somewhat lost amongst disdain and disinterest. Such is clearly not the case with The Video Dead, who sound like a completely different band altogether on this latest release.
Originally incorporating the trashier elements of the Dayglo Abortions (believe it or not, that band occasionally has lucid moments) into their steadfast diet of pop and street punk, the band used to sound rather typical and, well, garage.
Not losing any of those elements but updating their style with clean and raspy vocals, faster beats that border on thrash metal and an overall appeal closer to that of modern hardcore than old school punk, Brotherhood of the Dead is a giant leap forward. While it still evokes moderate sentiments of retread, its impossible to deny that this is a positive step towards finding their own sound. Imagine it as if Rise Against finally found the hardcore balls they seem to be endlessly yearning for.
