FIREBALL MINISTRY
Their Rock Is Not Our Rock
Liquor & Poker

· Taking the darkness of sludge rock and mixing it with upbeat melodies, this underground band is worthy of more attention. The band will be playing in Calgary on Thursday, May 25 at MacEwan Hall (U of C).

Blending the sludge-laden groove of early Black Sabbath with a more upbeat attack and unforgettable melodies, Fireball Ministry may look like a bunch of goons, but they certainly do know their rock. It lends itself quite easily to this open-ended album title, as the quartet certainly plant their feet firmly in new territory (albeit with a strangely familiar feel) on this tertiary release, without losing any of the ground its predecessors managed to gather. Thankfully, they stay ragged and gritty enough to appeal to metal hordes without falling into the trap of obligatory droning stoner metal and they fire up all cylinders when the time calls for it. Slightly more laid-back than boogie rock but with no less feel for the pocket, Their Rock is Not Our Rock features nary a bum track as the band flexes their robust, metallic muscle. From the head-bomp of "It Flies Again," to the sonic buzz of "Save the Saved," it proves that this underground outfit is deserving of far more attention.
