· The Jack Johnson crowd makes room for some friends.

Perhaps best known for their recent duet with Jack Johnson, "Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down," Animal Liberation Orchestra (ALO) have released their first full-length album in six years. Self-described "funkateers," a sort-of laid-back southern California equivalent of Phish, these are the local college grooveniks jamming on the campus lawn. Even if those days are long behind them and the local quad has been traded for the suburbs, the jam sessions continue. But you’ll have to look through the cloud of pot-laced patchouli stink to find these boys passed out in their own backyards.
