BILLY AND THE LOST BOYS
Yet Why Not Say What Happened?

·Punks with a political message make a catchy second album.
Generally, the all-ages, politically motivated punk thing is not my bag, but something about Billy and the Lost Boys latest album is decidedly catchy. Yet Why Not Say What Happened? is the bands second CD released independently on the bands label Lost Records. A wise choice in my opinion, as their punk sound didnt sit well next to the sugary pop bands on the numerous compilations put out by their former label, Boompa Records. I mean, I love the sugar and all, but it was a strange combination.
Known for writing songs referencing abortion and womens rights, the lyrics on Yet Why Not Say sound a tad less raw and bit more teen-angsty. Angry references to boys combined with punk music is a bit obvious, but the bands excited sound makes up for the less-than-compelling lyrics. Singer-guitarist Billy the Kids vocals combine nicely with frenetic drumming and an otherwise upbeat sound. Their single "Just Say Something" (which is also the bands new music video), is definitely catchy and other tracks like "Sketchpad" are well worth a listen. Altogether, the album could use a breakdown in tempo at some point, but hey, the Kids are all right. Get it? These reviews write themselves.
