| I currently have far too many magazines that I buy or subscribe to monthly. I start off with a threatening stack and plow through diligently. However, not every month releases a good crop of magazines. My shortage of reading material requires a back-up plan, one that can satisfy my craving for content that cant be found in the usual big-box reading store or at my local library.
Recently I've been spending my time on lastgasp.com. "Last Gasp is one of the largest and oldest publishers and purveyors of underground comic books in the world, as well as being a distributor of all sorts of weird n wonderful subversive literature, graphic novels, tattoo and art books," according to the website. For more than 30 years, Ron Turner, the founder of Last Gasp, has been publishing the pioneers of underground comics, paving the way for artists today and inspiring a dedicated audience with demiurgic narratives and artwork.
The extensive online catalogue covers a vast range of subjects, from politics and society, to books on comic theory and history. Youll also find a solid stock of comic-themed T-shirts, vinyl toys and obscure DVDs, including Walerian Borowczyks La Bete. |
